Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to What
We Hear Most.
Who is Cloud Capital Management’s ideal client?
We work best with people who feel their financial lives have grown complex enough that a standard advisory relationship no longer fits. Our clients typically arrive at a point where multiple moving parts, equity compensation, a business interest, a pending transaction, or a retirement decision with real consequences, need to be addressed together rather than in pieces.
Are you a fiduciary?
Yes. As an SEC-registered RIA, Cloud Capital is a fiduciary. We are required to act in our clients’ best interests and have no obligation to recommend proprietary products.
How is your investment process different from a typical advisor?
We use a liability-driven investment process grounded in the Fama-French factor models. We start with your actual balance sheet, cash flows, and obligations, then build an asset allocation specific to you. We do not place clients into model portfolios.
Can you help with equity compensation from a tech company?
Absolutely. RSUs, ISOs, ESPPs, and other forms of equity compensation are common among our clients. We analyze vesting schedules, tax implications, and concentration risk as part of building a coordinated financial plan.
How do you charge for your services?
As a fee-only RIA, we charge based on assets under management. We do not earn commissions on products. You can find full fee disclosure in our Form CRS and Form ADV.
Do you work with people before they sell their business?
Yes. Transaction planning is one of our core disciplines. We work with founders before a liquidity event to help them plan around deal structure, tax considerations, and how to build a financial plan around the proceeds.
What is the minimum to work with Cloud Capital?
Our typical client has liquid assets of $3 million or more. We recognize that some founders come to us earlier in their financial journey, particularly when a liquidity event is anticipated. We evaluate each prospective relationship individually.
Do you manage money across the country?
Yes. We serve clients in more than 25 states. We have offices in Seattle, Irvine, and Boca Raton, and work with clients in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Nevada, Utah, Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, and beyond.
